HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members, guests, family, and friends of the
3 Mt. Calvary Church of God in Christ in Freeport celebrated the
4 grand opening and dedication of the new church on March 9-12,
5 2005; and
 
6     WHEREAS, The first Church of God in Christ was founded by
7 Mother Anna Wright and her husband, Elder Ezekiel Wright, and
8 it was located at 108 South Sheridan in Freeport; and
 
9     WHEREAS, In 1968, there came an opportunity to purchase St.
10 Paul Baptist Church at 732 East Orin Street, which became the
11 second home of Mt. Calvary Church of God in Christ; and
 
12     WHEREAS, Growth has been displayed by the introduction of
13 new ministries; the ministries have been expanded and include
14 In Touch/Outreach Touch/Outreach, Christian Education, Singles
15 Ministry, Couples Ministry, Hospitality, Youth Ministry, and
16 the Scholarship Fund; and
 
17     WHEREAS, On August 20, 2000, property was purchased to
18 erect a new church to meet the growing needs of the
19 congregation; on July 25, 2004, a ground-breaking ceremony was
20 held and on March 6, 2005, members moved into their new house
21 of worship at 420 Challenge Street; and
 
22     WHEREAS, The celebration of the new church is an expression
23 of the church's enduring commitment to its holy mission and its
24 dedication to tradition and unity; therefore, be it
 
25     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
26 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
27 we congratulate and extend best wishes to the clergy and
28 members of Mt. Calvary Church of God in Christ on their new
29 church; and be it further

1     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2 presented to Bishop James E. Washington and the Mt. Calvary
3 Church of God in Christ as an expression of our esteem.
