HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), which also operates Illinois limited-access highways, has erected informational signs before key limited-access highway exits announcing the presence of local places of lodging, eating, motor fuel, and points of local public interest; and

WHEREAS, Owners/operators of places of lodging are Illinois taxpayers that pay a special 5.64% tax to the State on their gross receipts; and

WHEREAS, Restaurants and fast-food outlets pay full Illinois sales taxes of 6.25% on the food and beverages they sell; and

WHEREAS, Motor fuel retailers pay full Illinois sales taxes and a motor fuel tax of 20.1 cents per gallon on the motor fuel they sell; and

WHEREAS, Because these businesses pay these taxes, it is in Illinois' interest that these retailers be allowed to share their presence with motorists on Illinois toll highways; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we ask the Illinois Toll Highway Authority to work with travel-oriented private enterprises that do business in proximity to tollway entrances and exits to ensure that these businesses can make their presence known to motorists; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of the resolution should be presented to the Executive Director of the Illinois Toll Highway Authority.
