HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The official Sesquicentennial celebration of the
3 Village of McLean will take place on September 9-11, 2005 with
4 a festival, parade, entertainment, and style show with fashions
5 spanning the past 150 years; and
 
6     WHEREAS, The planning committee has also invited several
7 local politicians, as well as President George W. Bush, to
8 attend the celebration or appear in the parade; the committee
9 hopes the celebration will be a memorable event for all
10 citizens and plans to create a history book which will
11 highlight the celebration events and include stories about past
12 and present citizens, pictures, and articles about past
13 businesses; and
 
14     WHEREAS, The Village of McLean was formed on June 27, 1855;
15 in 1867, McLean was incorporated as a Village and the train
16 depot was built next to the railroad; with a current population
17 of approximately 820 citizens, the Village is located about
18 halfway between Chicago and St. Louis on I-55; prior to I-55
19 being constructed, historic Route 66 came through the Village;
20 and
 
21     WHEREAS, Today, the downtown area consists of a bank, post
22 office, village office, hardware store, tanning salon, and
23 community hall; Shorty's Barber Shop, a small hometown hardware
24 store, and a new library built in 2002 are also located on the
25 square; three small churches are located in the Village; and
26 the Dixie Cafe, an antique store, McDonalds, and the Super 8
27 Motel are located on the edge of town at the Route 136 exit off
28 of I-55; therefore, be it
 
29     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
30 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
31 we honor and recognize the Village of McLean and its residents

1 on the 150th anniversary of its founding and express our
2 sincerest best wishes for the future; and be it further
 
3     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
4 presented to the Village of McLean.
