HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Illinois has several programs that offer assistance in purchasing prescription drugs to senior citizens, including the pharmaceutical assistance program under the Senior Citizens and Disabled Persons Property Tax Relief and Pharmaceutical Assistance Act and the Senior Citizens and Disabled Persons Prescription Drug Discount Program; and

WHEREAS, The proliferation of prescription drug assistance programs is likely to result in confusion among senior citizens who may be eligible for those programs; and

WHEREAS, Senior citizens who may be eligible for one or more of the prescription drug assistance programs may need help in understanding the benefits and eligibility requirements for the programs and in comparing the relative advantages and disadvantages of each program; and

WHEREAS, The Department on Aging is in a position to help senior citizens understand the prescription drug programs that are available in Illinois and to help them make decisions about applying for and receiving benefits under the programs; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we encourage the Department on Aging to develop a streamlined program to help Illinois senior citizens understand the various prescription drug assistance programs that are available to them in this State; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be delivered to the Director of Aging.
