HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the
3 State of Illinois learned with sadness of the death of Lola D.
4 Adams of Cooks Mills on Tuesday, August 29, 2006; and
 
5     WHEREAS, She was born on July 13, 1920, in Cooks Mills to
6 William Melvin and Lucile Whitley Wright; she married Willie
7 Hassell Adams on March 13, 1937, in Charleston; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Mrs. Adams was a devoted wife, and she took care
9 of her husband from April of 1962 to 2001; he required
10 particular care and attention, which she faithfully gave, when
11 he suffered from Alzheimer's Disease from 1988 until his death
12 on July 1, 2001; and
 
13     WHEREAS, She was elected Town Clerk for North Okaw Township
14 in Coles County in April of 1949, a position she held at the
15 time of her death; as Town Clerk, she was able to attend
16 numerous conferences, where she enjoyed meeting many wonderful
17 people; she was proud to have registered over 1,000 people to
18 vote in Coles County; and
 
19     WHEREAS, She was a member of Mt. Zion General Baptist
20 Church and the Eagles Lodge in Mattoon; she was owner and
21 operator of Adams Grocery in Cooks Mills for 52 years; she
22 belonged to the North Okaw Township Home Extension for 49
23 years, TOPS for more than 28 years, and the Alzheimer's Support
24 Group; and
 
25     WHEREAS, The passing of Lola D. Adams has been deeply felt
26 by many, especially her children, Patricia Sorensen and husband
27 Leslie, Peggy Adams, Penny Browning and husband Gene, and Paula
28 Garrett and husband Kirk; her sister, Frances Eaton and husband
29 Lawrence; her twelve grandchildren; her nineteen
30 great-grandchildren; and her three great-great-grandchildren;

1 in addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her
2 parents and her sister, Bessie Adams; therefore, be it
 
3     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
4 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
5 we mourn the passing of Lola D. Adams, and we extend our
6 deepest sympathy to her family, her friends, and all who knew
7 and loved her; and be it further
 
8     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9 presented to her family as an expression of our sincerest
10 condolences.
