HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, It is the distinct pleasure of the members of the House of Representatives to recognize citizens that have shown heroic efforts on behalf of the life of another citizen; and

WHEREAS, On the morning of November 6th, 2006, two semi-tractor trailers collided on Illinois Route 1 south of Paris, Illinois, resulting in an explosion that severely injured both drivers; and

WHEREAS, Katie Porter, a Licensed Practical Nurse and Lakeland College nursing student, was in her home near the accident site and heard the explosion; and

WHEREAS, Upon hearing the explosion Ms. Porter ran to the scene and, according to witnesses, aided one driver in moving to safety and checked his injuries; and

WHEREAS, Jeremiah Hall, another nearby resident and manufacturing plant worker in Indiana, also responded to the scene upon hearing the explosion and seeing the rising black smoke; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Hall was the first to enter the second truck, which was surrounded by flames, and began the extraction of the driver; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Hall and Ms. Porter worked together to pull the second driver to safety and extinguish the flames that covered the lower half of his body; and

WHEREAS, The second driver, whose lower body was engulfed in flames, was Josh Monroe, the father of two young girls and driver for Rollet Brothers Trucking, a Missouri based company; and

WHEREAS, The other driver Ms. Porter aided that morning was Gerald Sturgeon of Washington, Indiana; and

WHEREAS, Illinois State Trooper Steve Trago, the officer who handled the accident scene, also commends both Ms. Porter and Mr. Hall for their actions that morning; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we honor Katie Porter and Jeremiah Hall for their lifesaving efforts on behalf of Josh Monroe and Gerald Sturgeon; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Ms. Porter and Mr. Hall as an expression of our deepest respect and esteem.
