1 HOUSE RESOLUTION

2     WHEREAS, The illegal distribution of methamphetamine is of
3 grave concern to the people of the State of Illinois; and

4     WHEREAS, Pseudoephedrine is a precursor chemical in the
5 manufacture of methamphetamine; and

6     WHEREAS, The House of Representatives recognizes that
7 there is a legitimate medicinal use for products containing
8 pseudoephedrine but that these products have sometimes been
9 purchased as an ingredient in the illegal manufacture of
10 methamphetamine; and

11     WHEREAS, There exists a patchwork of federal and state laws
12 concerning the distribution of products containing
13 pseudoephedrine; and

14     WHEREAS, The Congress should enact a single nationwide
15 standard relating to the distribution and sale of products
16 containing pseudoephedrine; therefore, be it

17     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
18 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
19 we urge the Congress of the United States to enact legislation
20 that provides for a single nationwide standard relating to the
21 sale and distribution of products containing pseudoephedrine;
22 and be it further

23     RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
24 forwarded to the Speaker of the United States House of
25 Representatives, the President pro tempore of the United States
26 Senate, and to each member of the Illinois Congressional
27 delegation.
