| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the |
| 3 |
| State of Illinois are pleased to recognize the 150th |
| 4 |
| anniversary of the United Methodist Church of Plano; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, United Methodist Church of Plano was started in |
| 6 |
| 1856 as the Methodist Episcopal Church; property for the church |
| 7 |
| was purchased for $200, and the church was built, then rebuilt |
| 8 |
| in 1905 because of the growth of the congregation; the 1905 |
| 9 |
| building still stands today with the original stained glass; in |
| 10 |
| 1968, the Methodist church merged with the Evangelical United |
| 11 |
| Brethren church; and
|
| 12 |
| WHEREAS, The church has accomplished much in recent years, |
| 13 |
| including the addition of an academic wing; the church has a |
| 14 |
| strong commitment to education and opens its doors to the |
| 15 |
| community for 12-step programs, scouting, and other |
| 16 |
| organizations; and
|
| 17 |
| WHEREAS, United Methodist Church of Plano partners with |
| 18 |
| Templo Sion, a church that is part of the Midwest Latin |
| 19 |
| American District of the Assemblies of God; each Sunday |
| 20 |
| afternoon, services are held in Spanish in the United Methodist |
| 21 |
| Church building; the church also partners with First Baptist |
| 22 |
| Church of Plano and First Lutheran Church of Plano on events |
| 23 |
| such as Vacation Bible School; therefore, be it
|
| 24 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 25 |
| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 26 |
| we recognize the 150th anniversary of the United Methodist |
| 27 |
| Church of Plano; and be it further
|
| 28 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 29 |
| presented to the United Methodist Church of Plano as an |
| 30 |
| expression of our esteem and with best wishes for the future.
