HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the State of Illinois are pleased to congratulate Mr. J. Michael Callahan on the occasion of the dedication of the J. Michael Callahan Southeast Wastewater Treatment Facility; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Callahan graduated from Bloomington High School 1966, where he was a member of the National Honor Society and enjoyed playing Raider football; he attended Illinois State University from 1966 to 1967 and then served in the U.S. Air Force from 1967 to 1971, when he was honorably discharged with the rank of staff sergeant; and

WHEREAS, He received a B.S. in biological sciences and environmental health with a chemistry minor from Illinois State University in 1975; he earned an M.A. in biological sciences with an emphasis on ecosystem nutrient cycling in 1977; he also did doctoral studies in biological sciences at Illinois State University; and

WHEREAS, From 1988 until July 28, 2006, Mr. Callahan served as the Executive Director for the Bloomington-Normal Water Reclamation District; prior to that, he served as Assistant Director, Director of Operations, and Chemist for the Bloomington-Normal Sanitary District; and

WHEREAS, He served as Illinois Section Chairman and State Association Trustee for the Central States Water Environment Association (CSWEA) and was awarded the organization's Hatfield Award for significant personal contribution to the profession; he has served as President through ascending chairs of the Illinois Association of Water Pollution Control Operators and the Illinois Association of Wastewater Agencies (IAWA)and has also served as chairman of several IAWA committees; he was awarded the Outstanding IAWA Member Award and the IAWA Illinois Award for significant personal contribution to the profession within the State; and

WHEREAS, Because of the dedication to the project and the hard work he has put in for the construction and completion of the Southeast Wastewater Treatment Facility, the building will be named the J. Michael Callahan Southeast Wastewater Treatment Facility and will be officially dedicated on Wednesday, October 11, 2006; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Mr. J. Michael Callahan on the occasion of the dedication of the J. Michael Callahan Southeast Wastewater Treatment Facility; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Mr. Callahan as an expression of our esteem.
