HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the
3 State of Illinois are pleased to congratulate Dr. Stephan Roth
4 on being honored for his dedication and service to the City of
5 Colchester; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Dr. Roth is originally from Tartlau,
7 Transylvania, located in modern day Romania; he went to
8 Gymnasium in Mediasch and is still in touch with his
9 classmates; and
 
10     WHEREAS, As was required of young men of his country, he
11 served in the German Army during World War II; at one point, he
12 was captured and held as a prisoner of war; and
 
13     WHEREAS, Following his release on August 29, 1947, he
14 traveled to Austria to attend medical school, where he received
15 his doctor diploma from the University Carola Francisca in
16 Graz, Austria; he and his wife, Traudi, traveled to America in
17 1956; and
 
18     WHEREAS, After a one-year rotating internship at Grant
19 Hospital in Chicago, he worked two years at Alton State
20 Hospital and passed the State Board Examination; he practiced
21 for 14 months in Glen Carbon and moved to Colchester in June of
22 1961; and
 
23     WHEREAS, Dr. Roth practiced in Colchester for 35 years from
24 1961 until his retirement in 1996; during that time, he made
25 daily rounds at St. Frances, Phelps, and McDonough District
26 Hospital; cared for patients at the nursing homes in
27 Colchester, Macomb, Blandinsville, and Plymouth; made hundreds
28 of house calls; and served at the Lions Club and on the board
29 of directors for First Federal Bank of Colchester; he was also
30 a member of the McDonough District Hospital medical staff, was

1 secretary for five years, and is still a member of the County
2 Medical Society; and
 
3     WHEREAS, He and Traudi have been married for 50 years and
4 have lived in Colchester for 45 years; they have two daughters,
5 Heidi (Steve) and Ingrid (Erik), and four grandchildren, Brian,
6 Gretchen, Nicholas, and Brett; and
 
7     WHEREAS, Dr. Roth is being honored for his dedication and
8 service to the citizens of Colchester on Saturday, October 7,
9 2006; therefore, be it
 
10     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
11 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
12 we congratulate Dr. Roth on being honored for his dedication
13 and service to the City of Colchester; and be it further
 
14     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15 presented to Dr. Roth as an expression of our esteem and
16 gratitude.
