HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the
3 State of Illinois are pleased to recognize the fiftieth year
4 for the DeLand Homecoming; and
 
5     WHEREAS, DeLand is a small town in East Central Illinois,
6 located on Route 10; it is situated near the central part of
7 Goose Creek Township in Piatt County; it is the only village in
8 the township to consist of about 54 sections; and
 
9     WHEREAS, DeLand was founded in 1873 by Thomas E. Bondurant,
10 who had it laid out as an answer to the needs of the local
11 farmers for a place from which to ship their grain; and
 
12     WHEREAS, September 1, 2006, through September 3, 2006, the
13 Village of DeLand will celebrate the fiftieth year for the
14 DeLand Homecoming with activities similar to the ones from the
15 very first Homecoming; the Homecoming will include evening
16 meals served by local organizations, a parade on Saturday
17 morning, entertainment throughout the days and evenings on the
18 stage, and tractor pulls for the children and adults; and
 
19     WHEREAS, The DeLand Homecoming is a time for remembering
20 the past and getting together with friends and family before
21 harvest begins; it is a way for the community to come together
22 and celebrate the past and the present and look forward to the
23 future; therefore, be it
 
24     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
25 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
26 we recognize the fiftieth year for the DeLand Homecoming; and
27 be it further
 
28     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
29 presented to the Village of DeLand as an expression of our
