HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the
3 State of Illinois are pleased to recognize the 60th anniversary
4 of the founding of the Mt. Zion Fire Protection District; and
 
5     WHEREAS, The Mt. Zion Fire Protection District was
6 established on August 6, 1946; Mr. Frank Britton was the first
7 Fire Chief, and a used fire truck was housed in a garage where
8 the current Tool and Die Company is at W. Main St. and Bell
9 St.; and
 
10     WHEREAS, In 1952, a new fire station was built at 205
11 Broadway St., which is now part of the Mt. Zion Presbyterian
12 Church; and
 
13     WHEREAS, In 1958, Dick Wheeler was appointed Fire Chief and
14 served as Chief for 17 years, turning over the Chief position
15 to the current Chief, Don Wright, in 1975; in 1979, a new
16 station was built at 110 W. Main St., where the fire department
17 is located today; and
 
18     WHEREAS, During the year that the current fire station was
19 built, the Mt. Zion Fire District responded to 126 emergencies
20 and calls for service; today, it responds to over 400 calls
21 annually, an increase of more than 300%; and
 
22     WHEREAS, The district currently has two full-time
23 employees and one part-time employee; an additional 25
24 personnel volunteer for the district, and the full-time and
25 part-time employees respond as volunteers after hours, serving
26 the public 24 hours a day, seven days a week; and
 
27     WHEREAS, August 6, 2006, marked 60 years of service to the
28 Mt. Zion Community; therefore, be it

1     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
2 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
3 we recognize the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Mt.
4 Zion Fire Protection District, and we thank those individuals
5 who have put their lives on the line throughout the years for
6 the safety and protection of their fellow citizens; and be it
7 further
 
8     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9 presented to the Mt. Zion Fire Protection District as an
10 expression of our esteem.
