HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the State of Illinois are pleased to recognize the 50th anniversary of Moweaqua Boy Scout Troop 85; and

WHEREAS, In the mid-1950s, the Moweaqua Rotary became the sponsoring organization of Boy Scout Troop 85; throughout the years, the troop has had just three Scoutmasters, with Howard Burns serving for over 40 of those years; and

WHEREAS, Out of Moweaqua's small community of about 2,000 people, Boy Scout Troop 85 has produced 69 Eagle Scouts, the highest rank in Scouting; among its veterans are doctors, dentists, a college professor, a lawyer, a preacher, a career military officer, a restaurant manager, a chef, a school administrator, teachers, businessmen, a professional Scouter, firemen, police officers, computer programmers and system designers, and many others; and

WHEREAS, The Scouts have participated in many camping projects and adventures, but true to the spirit of Scouting, they have participated in numerous hours of service projects for the community; each year, the Troop conducts a food drive for the Moweaqua Food Pantry and assists the Rotary Club in recycling; numerous individual projects have benefited the school, a variety of churches, numerous cemeteries, the nursing home, and the community; and

WHEREAS, A special celebration of the 50th anniversary of Troop 85 is planned for Saturday, August 12, 2006; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize the 50th anniversary of Boy Scout Troop 85 of Moweaqua, and we commend all those Scouts that have passed through the ranks of Troop 85; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Troop 85 as an expression of our respect and esteem.
