HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the State of Illinois are pleased to congratulate Rev. Henry Nicholson on the occasion of his 50th anniversary as pastor of Truelight Baptist Church; and

WHEREAS, Rev. Nicholson is a native of East St. Louis and is a graduate of Lincoln High School; he holds a B.A. from American Baptist College and a divinity degree from Eden Theological Seminary; and

WHEREAS, He was employed as an instructor in the Theology Department of St. Louis University and authored a book on New Testament theology, published in 1971; and

WHEREAS, Rev. Nicholson served on the Illinois State Human Relations Commission and the Coalition for Good Government Church Involvement Committee; and

WHEREAS, During his 1983 campaign for mayor of East St. Louis, he organized a new political party called "Recovery" with a platform advocating casino gambling; his vision for "Recovery", was aimed to provide a major tourist attraction for economic development that would create jobs and generate revenue for the city; and

WHEREAS, Rev. Nicholson was a member of Theta Alpha Epsilon Honor Society at American Baptist College; he received a Merit Award for Devotion to the Principles of the Equality of Man from the Illinois-Wisconsin States Association-I.B.P.O.E.W. and the Man of the Year Award from the Pro-8 Club; and

WHEREAS, He has been a member of Truelight Baptist Church since childhood and has been pastor since 1956; and

WHEREAS, Rev. Nicholson is married to Evelyn June Tantype, and they two daughters and one son, Scarlet, Octavia, and Corwin, and a grandson, Chancellor; in his spare time, Rev. Nicholson enjoys table tennis, dancing, and fishing; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Rev. Henry Nicholson on the occasion of his 50th anniversary as pastor of Truelight Baptist Church; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Rev. Nicholson as an expression of our esteem.
