HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of this Body are honored to recognize
3 significant milestones in the lives of the people of this
4 State; and
 
5     WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Mae Schien will
6 celebrate her 90th birthday with a celebratory dinner on May 5,
7 2006; and
 
8     WHEREAS, She was born May 5, 1916 in a windswept house on
9 the prairie near Mullinville, Kansas, the only child of Edwin
10 and Clara Voight, who moved to Kaufman Station, Illinois when
11 she was a young child; and
 
12     WHEREAS, Mae was an active athlete and artist; she
13 graduated from Blackburn College and taught art in Maywood and
14 Edwardsville public schools, where she supervised art
15 instruction for the entire district; and
 
16     WHEREAS, Mae married her childhood sweetheart, Clarence
17 Schien, on December 27, 1952 and they had a loving marriage,
18 residing in Worden, Illinois for 47 years before he died on
19 June 10, 2000; and
 
20     WHEREAS, Mae is the proud and caring mother of Suzanne,
21 Karen, Janice, and Sandra; the grandmother of l0: Mark, Deanna,
22 Tim, Annette, Randy, Andrew, Marci, Barrie, Todd, and Jason;
23 and the great grandmother of 11: Brett, Bobby, Michael, Kileen,
24 Mitchell, Tyler, Miranda, Erika, Jessica, Luke, and Alyssa; and
 
25     WHEREAS, Mrs. Schien is able to live independently with her
26 cat, Kitty, and is a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in
27 Worden, Illinois, where she attends services regularly; and
 
28     WHEREAS, Mrs. Schien is an ardent animal lover who nurtured

1 dozens of cats and kittens and also fed and attracted hundreds
2 of birds when she lived in the country and has a green thumb
3 that coaxes beauty and blooms from plants, shrubs, and trees;
4 and
 
5     WHEREAS, Mae Schien has had such a positive impact on her
6 daughters and family and sets an example for us all with her
7 love and compassion for animals and nature; therefore, be it
 
8     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
9 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
10 we congratulate Mrs. Mae Schien on the occasion of her 90th
11 birthday, and we extend to her our sincere best wishes for the
12 future; and be it further
 
13     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14 presented to Mrs. Schien as an expression of our respect and
15 esteem.
