HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Katherine "Kizzy" Marco of LaGrange has been named "Young Woman of the Year" by the West Suburban Chamber of Commerce and Industry; the award is one of four awards given by the Chamber as part of the Pride of the Future Youth Awards; and

WHEREAS, Kizzy is a senior at Nazareth Academy, where she has been a member of the Community Memorial Foundation's Youth Initiative, French and Spanish clubs, fall play crews, Catholics Opposed to Racism, and Peacebuilders Outreach team; she was coordinator/planner for red ribbon week, is a big sister to freshmen, a senior leader/planner for freshman orientation, and a focus group leader; and

WHEREAS, Miss Marco spearheaded the effort by the Youth Initiative to bring Operation: Snowball (healthy decision making) to Nazareth; she led efforts to develop a plan to implement the program, gave up time in the summer to train for the program, and then implemented the program; and

WHEREAS, She serves her church in several ways, including as a catechist for preschool religious education and cantor at St. Francis Xavier Teen Mass; she is a Hodgkin's tutor and a team captain/ recruiter for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life; she volunteers with the American Cancer Society's Making Strides for Breast Cancer, the Victorian Manor (LaGrange) residential facility for elders, the Hole in One Club (LaGrange) after school program, BEHIV (Better Existence with HIV), Project Linus, Children's Memorial Hospital (summer), and Phantom Lake YMCA Camp in Mukwonago, Wisconsin, as a camp counselor; and

WHEREAS, Miss Marco has overcome a major obstacle to become the person she is today; when she was 13 years old, an accident at a softball game led to her diagnosis of a rare and serious illness, Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy Syndrome; throughout the years since the diagnosis, she has learned to take every day as the gift that it is and spends all of her time giving to others; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Katherine "Kizzy" Marco on being named "Young Woman of the Year", and we applaud her tireless efforts to serve other through countless venues; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Miss Marco as an expression of our esteem.
