HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, State Representative Monique D. Davis and the
3 members of the House of Representatives believe that the
4 institution of marriage is one of the cornerstones upon which
5 our society is built, and a marriage that has achieved a
6 notable longevity is truly a model for the people of the State
7 of Illinois; and
 
8     WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Dr. and Mrs.
9 Manford Byrd, Jr., recently celebrated the fiftieth
10 anniversary of their marriage at a dinner party given by their
11 children at the Oak Lawn Hilton in Oak Lawn; and
 
12     WHEREAS, Dr. Manford and Cheribelle Byrd were united in
13 holy matrimony on March 31, 1956, at St. Barbara's Church in
14 Bridgeport; and
 
15     WHEREAS, They are the loving parents of three sons and the
16 proud grandparents of eight grandchildren; and
 
17     WHEREAS, Dr. Byrd is the former General Superintendent of
18 the Chicago Public Schools, and Mrs. Cheribelle Byrd is a
19 former teacher and Early Childhood Administrator; the
20 dedicated couple had a combined total of almost 75 years of
21 service in public education when they retired in 1990; and
 
22     WHEREAS, The Byrds spend their retirement consulting on a
23 part-time basis; they are also very active in civic, community,
24 social, and philanthropic areas; they also enjoy spending time
25 with their family, traveling, and being Florida snow birds; and
 
26     WHEREAS, The respect for marriage reaches one of its
27 highest plateaus when a couple such as Manford and Cheribelle
28 celebrate their golden wedding anniversary; and

1     WHEREAS, Manford and Cheribelle stand as examples of the
2 best of our society, and their love and devotion to each other
3 and to their family and friends serve as a reminder to all that
4 hard work, dedication, and love can make a difference in
5 today's world; therefore, be it
 
6     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
7 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
8 we congratulate Dr. and Mrs. Manford Byrd, Jr., on the occasion
9 of their fiftieth wedding anniversary, and we commend them for
10 achieving a long and happy marriage, blessed with children and
11 grandchildren and rich in friendships; and be it further
 
12     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13 presented to them as an expression of our respect and esteem
14 and with our best wishes for happiness and good health in the
15 future.
