HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs operates
3 clinics throughout the United States to provide health care
4 services to veterans; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Besides providing health care services to
6 veterans, VA clinics also provide jobs to local residents and
7 therefore benefit local economies; and
 
8     WHEREAS, The former Lincoln Developmental Center in
9 Lincoln, Illinois, was closed in 2002, resulting in the loss of
10 hundreds of jobs; and
 
11     WHEREAS, Approximately 800 veterans reside in Logan County
12 alone; at the present time they have to drive several hours to
13 the nearest VA clinic; and
 
14     WHEREAS, The campus of the former Lincoln Developmental
15 Center in Lincoln, Illinois, is not currently in use and is
16 suitable for use as a VA clinic; in particular, the Coty
17 Medical Building on that campus is a ready-made site for such a
18 clinic, being already set up with medical offices, surgical
19 equipment, and laboratory facilities; therefore, be it
 
20     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
21 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
22 we urge Congress to take all steps necessary to provide for the
23 establishment of a U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs clinic
24 on the campus of the former Lincoln Developmental Center in
25 Lincoln, Illinois; and be it further
 
26     RESOLVED, That A suitable copy of this resolution be sent
27 to each member of the Illinois Congressional delegation.
