| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The Old Neighborhood Italian American Club |
| 3 |
| (ONIAC) was founded in 1981, when 30 men donated $100 each to |
| 4 |
| get the club started; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, It was originally founded to bring together social |
| 6 |
| friends and neighbors who resided in or had moved from the |
| 7 |
| Chinatown, Armour Square, and Bridgeport community; and
|
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, The organization is located at 3031 South Shields |
| 9 |
| in a huge building that offers a banquet room, workout |
| 10 |
| facilities, locker rooms, sauna, pool tables, library, and a |
| 11 |
| sitting room for relaxing and watching television; club |
| 12 |
| membership now numbers 600 male members, and the Women's |
| 13 |
| Alliance has 200 members; and
|
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, Since its inception, the ONIAC has sponsored |
| 15 |
| numerous charitable activities, mainly for children, including |
| 16 |
| a scholarship program, an anti-drug and alcohol seminar, |
| 17 |
| Breakfast with Santa, the donation of computers to local |
| 18 |
| schools, the sponsorship of local youth sports teams, an ONIAC |
| 19 |
| Youth Boxing program, and holiday food baskets for the needy in |
| 20 |
| the community; the organization has made its facility available |
| 21 |
| to neighborhood churches and schools for functions such as |
| 22 |
| graduations, fundraisers, and anniversary celebrations; and
|
| 23 |
| WHEREAS, The ONIAC will celebrate its 25th anniversary on |
| 24 |
| Saturday, April 29, 2006; therefore, be it
|

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 26 |
| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 27 |
| we congratulate the Old Neighborhood Italian American Club on |
| 28 |
| the occasion of its 25th anniversary; and be it further
|
