HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the State of Illinois were grieved to learn of the death in Iraq of U.S. Marine Lance Corporal Christopher Zimny on Monday, January 31, 2005; and

WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Zimny was a graduate of St. Catherine Laboure School, Glenbrook South High School, and Illinois State University; during high school, he was a track star, was a good student, and excelled in sports; he enlisted in the Marines after the 2001 terrorist attacks and loved being a Marine; and

WHEREAS, He was one of the special recipients of supplies collected by St. Catherine Laboure's Brownie Troop 921; when he was due to return to active duty in Iraq in August 2003, the troop sent him off with a scrapbook of congratulatory letters; and

WHEREAS, He earned two Purple Hearts for injuries received in earlier battles, a shrapnel injury in August and wounds incurred during a rocket-propelled grenade attack in October while he was on patrol in the city of Fallujah; his back was hurt in Kuwait just before the start of the Iraq war in 2003, but he stayed in the fight for several weeks before being sent back home to Glenview to recuperate; and

WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Zimny was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force from Camp Lejeune, North Carolina; and

WHEREAS, The passing of Lance Corporal Christopher Zimny has been deeply felt by many, including his parents, Barbara and Ted Zimny; his sisters, Michelle Stuart, Danielle Zimny, and Lisa Zimny; his brother, John; and his grandmother, Helen Adamski; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, we mourn the death of Lance Corporal Christopher Zimny, and we extend our sincerest condolences to his family, friends, fellow Marines, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we honor the memory of Lance Corporal Zimny and his willingness to serve our country, which led to him making the ultimate sacrifice; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Lance Corporal Christopher Zimny as an expression of our deepest sympathy for their loss.
