| HOUSE RESOLUTION
|
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, The Village of Buckley, Illinois will celebrate |
| 3 |
| the 150th anniversary of its founding the weekend of July 28, |
| 4 |
| 2006; and
|
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Pioneers first came into Artesia Township in the |
| 6 |
| Buckley area as early as 1852 and most of the early history of |
| 7 |
| the town is closely related to the development of the railroad |
| 8 |
| from Chicago to Cairo; and
|
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, Buckley was founded in 1856, by Ira Manley who |
| 10 |
| purchased the land upon which the village stands from the |
| 11 |
| railroad and surveyed and platted the town as a central place |
| 12 |
| for business in the region between railroad stations at Loda to |
| 13 |
| the south and Onarga to the north; and
|
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, The Village has a population of 593 persons and is |
| 15 |
| located in Iroquois County; and
|
| 16 |
| WHEREAS, The celebration of the Buckley sesquicentennial |
| 17 |
| marks a significant milestone in the lives of the citizens of |
| 18 |
| this small rural community; marked by a fish fry, parade, |
| 19 |
| volleyball tournament, tractor pull, softball, barbecue, and |
| 20 |
| numerous other events and entertainment; it is both a testament |
| 21 |
| to Buckley's past and a celebration of the town's future; |
| 22 |
| therefore, be it

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 24 |
| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 25 |
| we congratulate the Village of Buckley on the occasion of its |
| 26 |
| 150th anniversary; and be it further
|
| 27 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 28 |
| presented to the village of Buckley as an expression of our |
| 29 |
| respect and esteem and with best wishes for many prosperous |
