HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The Village of Buckley, Illinois will celebrate
3 the 150th anniversary of its founding the weekend of July 28,
4 2006; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Pioneers first came into Artesia Township in the
6 Buckley area as early as 1852 and most of the early history of
7 the town is closely related to the development of the railroad
8 from Chicago to Cairo; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Buckley was founded in 1856, by Ira Manley who
10 purchased the land upon which the village stands from the
11 railroad and surveyed and platted the town as a central place
12 for business in the region between railroad stations at Loda to
13 the south and Onarga to the north; and
 
14     WHEREAS, The Village has a population of 593 persons and is
15 located in Iroquois County; and
 
16     WHEREAS, The celebration of the Buckley sesquicentennial
17 marks a significant milestone in the lives of the citizens of
18 this small rural community; marked by a fish fry, parade,
19 volleyball tournament, tractor pull, softball, barbecue, and
20 numerous other events and entertainment; it is both a testament
21 to Buckley's past and a celebration of the town's future;
22 therefore, be it
 
23     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
24 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
25 we congratulate the Village of Buckley on the occasion of its
26 150th anniversary; and be it further
 
27     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
28 presented to the village of Buckley as an expression of our
29 respect and esteem and with best wishes for many prosperous
