HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the 117th Representative District
3 Youth Advisory Council recognize the enhanced learning
4 experiences resulting from the increased use of technology in
5 the classroom; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Technology is recognized as an important
7 instructional tool for educators, allowing classrooms to
8 operate more efficiently and resulting in increased
9 communication among students around the world; and
 
10     WHEREAS, The best learning occurs when there is continuity
11 between home and school activities; and
 
12     WHEREAS, A majority of students have access to a home
13 computer, personal digital assistant, the internet and other
14 technological resources and services that expose the user to a
15 vast pool of information; and
 
16     WHEREAS, A recent national survey conducted by CDW
17 Government, Inc. found that 85 percent of surveyed teachers
18 believe the use of computer technology translates into higher
19 student achievement and 74 percent of surveyed teachers believe
20 that computers improve students' attention in class; and
 
21     WHEREAS, Technology can provide students and teachers with
22 access to a wealth of research and discussion materials,
23 including digital libraries and encyclopedias, online lesson
24 plans, language tutorials, virtual field trips, and
25 educational networking opportunities; therefore, be it
 
26     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
27 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
28 we urge school boards, superintendents, school principals,
29 teachers, and other educators to incorporate increased

1 technology programs in the classroom and provide the
2 appropriate training, hardware, software, and other resources
3 needed to expand technology-based learning activities; and be
4 it further
 
5     RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
6 presented to the State Board of Education and members of the
7 117th Representative District Youth Advisory Council.
