HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, In order to gather statistics concerning the
3 racial identity of persons stopped for traffic violations,
4 Section 11-212 of the Illinois Vehicle Code was enacted to
5 require every law enforcement agency in the State to compile
6 statistical data relevant to traffic stops, including the race
7 of the person stopped, the location, date, and time of the
8 stop, the reason for the stop, and the name and badge number of
9 the officer; and
 
10     WHEREAS, Every law enforcement agency is required to
11 transmit its statistical data to the Department of
12 Transportation by March 1 of 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007; and
 
13     WHEREAS, Some law enforcement agencies are not in
14 compliance with these requirements; therefore, be it
 
15     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
16 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
17 we urge the Office of the Attorney General to investigate the
18 failure of law enforcement agencies to compile and transmit
19 statistical data relevant to traffic stops as required under
20 Section 11-212 of the Illinois Vehicle Code; and be it further
 
21     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22 delivered to the Attorney General.
