HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The American Legion was formed in 1919, shortly
3 after the termination of World War I hostilities; and
 
4     WHEREAS, The American Legion is an organization of wartime
5 veterans united by a common bond of continued service to God
6 and country; and
 
7     WHEREAS, The American Legion observed the 87th anniversary
8 of its founding, March 15-17, 2006, as an organization
9 comprised of nearly 3 million men and women who have served
10 their country with honor during one of the wars since the 20th
11 century ; and
 
12     WHEREAS, By giving meaningful service in conjunction with
13 the theme "Still Serving America", Legionnaires have made
14 significant contributions to American thought and deed; and
 
15     WHEREAS, Endeavors of The American Legion, which
16 strengthen our freedom and perpetuate our free institutions,
17 characterize this gigantic fraternity of service as one of the
18 great bulwarks of the American way of life; and
 
19     WHEREAS, The American Legion has achieved its position of
20 high esteem through programs of service to community, state,
21 and nation; and
 
22     WHEREAS, Such programs have become an integral part of the
23 State of Illinois; therefore, be it
 
24     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
25 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
26 we do hereby proclaim the week of March 12-18, 2006, as
27 American Legion Week, and we call upon all citizens, companies,
28 and organizations to join with us in commending the good works

1 of this organization as an expression of appreciation for the
2 wartime and peacetime services of our Legionnaires; they are
3 truly "Still Serving America"; and be it further
 
4     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5 presented to the American Legion as an expression of our esteem
6 and gratitude for their faithful service.
