HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The COMIT Drug Task Force marks its 10th anniversary after more than 500 drug investigations; COMIT originally began as the County Municipal Investigative Unit and has evolved into one of the most successful drug task forces in the region; and

WHEREAS, When the COMIT Drug Task Force came into existence in Franklin County a decade ago, it was unknown how long it would last; and

WHEREAS, COMIT has expanded to include communities in Hamilton, Wayne, and Williamson counties and representatives from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, the Drug Enforcement Agency, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Director of State Police; and

WHEREAS, COMIT initially focused on marijuana and cocaine; more recently, due to the rise of methamphetamine use in the region, the task force has focused its efforts on combating that drug; and

WHEREAS, Much of COMIT's labor is donated and much funding comes from the sale of seized vehicles and property and fines assessed by courts; and

WHEREAS, The work of the Task Force has resulted in at least 320 convictions in federal and State courts; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the COMIT Drug Task Force on the occasion of its 10th anniversary and on its successes and efforts to fight illegal drug use and trade; and be it further

RESOLVED, that a copy of this resolution be delivered to COMIT as an expression of our esteem.
