HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, Young people in our State who show great
3 determination and dedication to learning are to be commended;
4 they are an example to their peers and to all citizens of our
5 State; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Dayton LeClercq of the Girl Scouts Fox Valley
7 Council Troop 981 in Oswego has earned 103 Try-Its through many
8 different venues; according to the Fox Valley Council, it is
9 estimated that less than ten girls in the Council, including
10 Miss LeClercq, have completed all the Try-Its in the book since
11 the Try-It Program was initiated in 1986; and
 
12     WHEREAS, A Try-It is a triangle-shaped patch that Brownie
13 Girl Scouts earn by completing at least four requirement
14 options; most Try-Its have at least six requirement options
15 from which to choose; the Brownie Girl Scout Try-It Book
16 currently has 57 Try-Its; Girl Scouts USA has two Try-Its,
17 Smart Cookie and Wave the Flag, which have yet to be added to
18 the Try-It Book; individual Girl Scout Councils (GSC) are
19 allowed to create their own special interest Try-Its called
20 "Our Council's Own"; Miss LeClercq has completed all 57 in the
21 book plus Smart Cookie and Wave the Flag, as well as 44 from 20
22 councils around the United States, for a grand total of 103;
23 and
 
24     WHEREAS, Miss LeClercq has also earned the Religious Award,
25 "God and Me", and completed two Council Patch programs, "Just
26 Like a Ladybug" (Rolling Hills GSC, New Jersey) and "Alaska
27 Native Heritage" (Susitna GSC, Alaska); and
 
28     WHEREAS, Miss LeClercq earned more than 20 of her Try-Its
29 as part of her troop, but earned the remainder independently as
30 part of her homeschooling; she has covered such subjects as
31 zoology, oceanography, caves, and plants for science, studied

1 the gravestones in a cemetery and learned about pioneer life
2 for social studies, written an editorial letter to her local
3 paper, read several biographies of famous women, and composed
4 poetry for English; she has composed music and made instruments
5 for music and done various craft projects for art, including
6 mock scrimshaw with Ivory soap and black tempera paint and
7 making candles; and
 
8     WHEREAS, The Try-Its that she has earned from other Girl
9 Scout Councils have come from all over the United States,
10 including Arizona, West Virginia, Kansas, Delaware, Oregon,
11 Colorado, Illinois, Nebraska, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Texas,
12 California, New York, Alaska, Tennessee, Virginia, and
13 Kentucky; therefore, be it
 
14     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
15 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
16 we recognize Miss Dayton LeClercq for the hard work,
17 dedication, and determination it has taken to earn 103 Try-It
18 patches through her work as a Brownie member of the Girl Scouts
19 Fox Valley Council Troop 981 in Oswego, and we congratulate her
20 on the knowledge she has attained through earning these
21 patches; and be it further
 
22     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
23 presented to Dayton LeClercq as an expression of our esteem.
