HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, Thomas Menzel resigned from his position as City
3 Treasurer of Rolling Meadows on February 26, 2006; and
 
4     WHEREAS, Mr. Menzel came to the Chicago area in 1968 to
5 teach at Prospect High School, after completing his college
6 degree at Western Michigan University; he moved to Rolling
7 Meadows in 1972; in 1974, he started his political career as a
8 commissioner on the Salt Creek Rural Park District Board; Mr.
9 Menzel went on to serve 19 years as alderman before winning
10 election as Mayor by nearly a 2-1 margin in 1995; he was easily
11 re-elected to a second 4-year term in 1999 and then appointed
12 City Treasurer after leaving the Mayor's office in 2003; and
 
13     WHEREAS, Mr. Menzel started his business career in the
14 public affairs department of Allstate Insurance Company in
15 1970; he held management positions with Xerox Learning Systems
16 and McGraw Hill Training Systems and consulted with many other
17 business organizations; he earned an MBA with honors from Lake
18 Forest Graduate School of Management in 1991; and
 
19     WHEREAS, Mr. Menzel helped set the course for Rolling
20 Meadows, from reshaping the economic development committee to
21 making the city more business-friendly; and
 
22     WHEREAS, After serving Rolling Meadows for 30 years, Mr.
23 Menzel is moving back to his hometown of Traverse City,
24 Michigan, where he will assume the position of Executive
25 Director of the National Cherry Festival; therefore, be it
 
26     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
27 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
28 we congratulate Thomas Menzel on the occasion of his
29 resignation as City Treasurer of Rolling Meadows for his many
30 years of service to the citizens of Rolling Meadows, and we

1 wish him success in his future endeavors; and be it further
 
2     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
3 presented to Thomas Menzel as an expression of our respect and
4 esteem.
