SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
20 ILCS 835/2.1 new

    Amends the State Parks Act. Requires the Department of Natural Resources to designate areas within the State parks where dogs, cats, and other domesticated animals, when accompanied by their lawful owner, may be exercised or trained at all times throughout the year, provided that: (i) any domesticated animal brought into a State park must be current and in compliance with any required federal, State, or local vaccinations or health certifications, and (ii) the Department may, by rule, prohibit noisy, vicious, or dangerous animals, or any animal disturbing to other persons from being allowed on park grounds. Sets forth that this requirement does not authorize the presence of a dog, cat, or other domesticated animal in a State park outside of the designated area where that animal may be present. Effective immediately.

1     AN ACT concerning State government.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The State Parks Act is amended by adding Section
5 2.1 as follows:
 
6     (20 ILCS 835/2.1 new)
7     Sec. 2.1. Animal areas. In addition to the purposes and
8 objectives contained in Section 2 of this Act, the Department
9 of Natural Resources shall designate areas within the State
10 parks where dogs, cats, and other domesticated animals, when
11 accompanied by their lawful owner, may be exercised or trained
12 at all times throughout the year, provided that: (i) any
13 domesticated animal brought into a State park must be current
14 and in compliance with any required federal, State, or local
15 vaccinations or health certifications, and (ii) the Department
16 may, by rule, prohibit noisy, vicious, or dangerous animals, or
17 any animal disturbing to other persons from being allowed on
18 park grounds. Nothing in this Section shall authorize the
19 presence of a dog, cat, or other domesticated animal in a State
20 park outside of the designated area where that animal may be
21 present.
 
22     Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
23 becoming law.
