SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
55 ILCS 5/5-32014   from Ch. 34, par. 5-32014

    Amends the Counties Code. Provides that the Committee of Local Improvements may provide notice of a special assessment over the internet. Provides that, if the Committee does not publish notice in the newspaper, it is required to provide notice over the internet. Effective immediately.

1     AN ACT concerning local government.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Counties Code is amended by changing Section
5 5-32014 as follows:
 
6     (55 ILCS 5/5-32014)  (from Ch. 34, par. 5-32014)
7     Sec. 5-32014. Special assessment notice. The Committee in
8 addition to the notice in this Division provided for shall
9 publish a notice at least twice not more than 30 days nor less
10 than 15 days in advance of the time at which the confirmation
11 of the specified assessment is to be sought, in one or more
12 newspapers published in the county or if no newspaper is
13 published therein then in one or more newspapers with a general
14 circulation in the county. The notice shall be over the name of
15 the levying officer and shall be substantially as follows:

"SPECIAL ASSESSMENT NOTICE
17     Notice is hereby given to all persons interested that the
18 County of .... has order that (herein insert a brief
19 description of the nature of the improvement), the ordinance
20 for the improvement being on file in the office of the County
21 Clerk, having applied to the Circuit Court of .... County, for
22 an assessment of the costs of the improvement according to
23 benefits an assessment therefor having been made and returned
24 to that Court, a final hearing thereon will be had on (insert
25 date), or as soon thereafter as the business of the Court will
26 permit.
27     All persons desiring may file objections in that Court
28 before that day and may appear on the hearing and make their
29 defense. (Here give date)

2     The Committee may also provide notice over the internet
3 provided that all other requirements of this Section are met.
4 If the Committee does not publish notice in a newspaper, it is
5 required to provide notice over the internet.
