    Amends the Unified Code of Corrections. Makes a technical change in a Section concerning a committed person's grievances.

1     AN ACT concerning criminal law.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Unified Code of Corrections is amended by
5 changing Section 3-8-8 as follows:
 
6     (730 ILCS 5/3-8-8)  (from Ch. 38, par. 1003-8-8)
7     Sec. 3-8-8. Grievances.
8     (a) The The Director shall establish procedures to review
9 the grievances of committed persons. The Director may establish
10 one or more administrative review boards within the Department
11 to review grievances. A committed person's right to file
12 grievances shall not be restricted. Such procedure shall
13 provide for the review of grievances by a person or persons
14 other than the person or persons directly responsible for the
15 conditions or actions against which the grievance is made.
16     (b) Such procedures shall provide that a record of such
17 grievance and any decision made with respect to it shall be
18 preserved for a period of one year.
19     (c) Such procedures shall allow committed persons to
20 communicate grievances directly to the Director or some person
21 designated by the Director outside of the institution or
22 facility where the person is confined.
23     (d) All committed persons shall be informed of the
24 grievance procedures established by the Department and they
25 shall be available to all committed persons.
26     (e) Discipline shall not be imposed because of use of the
27 grievance procedure.
