SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
625 ILCS 5/3-663 new

    Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides for issuance of War on Terrorism Veteran license plates, at an additional initial charge of $15 and an additional renewal charge of $2 with eligibility requirements to be determined by the Secretary of State. Provides that the additional $15 initial charge and the $2 renewal charge shall go to the Secretary of State Special License Plate Fund. Effective immediately.

1     AN ACT concerning transportation.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by adding
5 Section 3-663 as follows:
 
6     (625 ILCS 5/3-663 new)
7     Sec. 3-663. War on Terrorism Veteran license plates.
8     (a) In addition to any other special license plate, the
9 Secretary, upon receipt of all applicable fees and applications
10 made in the form prescribed by the Secretary of State, may
11 issue War on Terrorism Veteran license plates to residents of
12 Illinois who meet eligibility requirements prescribed by the
13 Secretary of State. The special War on Terrorism Veteran plate
14 issued under this Section shall be affixed only to passenger
15 vehicles of the first division and motor vehicles of the second
16 division weighing not more than 8,000 pounds. Plates issued
17 under this Section shall expire according to the staggered
18 multi-year procedure established by Section 3-414.1 of this
19 Code.
20     (b) The design, color, and format of the plates shall be
21 wholly within the discretion of the Secretary of State. The
22 Secretary may, in his or her discretion, allow the plates to be
23 issued as vanity or personalized plates in accordance with
24 Section 3-405.1 of this Code. The plates are not required to
25 designate "Land Of Lincoln", as prescribed in subsection (b) of
26 Section 3-412 of this Code. The Secretary shall prescribe the
27 eligibility requirements and, in his or her discretion, shall
28 approve and prescribe stickers or decals as provided under
29 Section 3-412.
30     (c) An applicant shall be charged a $15 fee for original
31 issuance in addition to the applicable registration fee. This
32 additional fee shall be deposited into the Secretary of State

1 Special License Plate Fund. For each registration renewal
2 period, a $2 fee, in addition to the appropriate registration
3 fee, shall be charged and shall be deposited into the Secretary
4 of State Special License Plate Fund.
 
5     Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
6 becoming law.
