| SENATE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois | 3 |
| were saddened to learn of the passing of Arties Eddie Jones of | 4 |
| Chicago on October 12, 2003; and | 5 |
| WHEREAS, Arties E. Jones, the first of three children of | 6 |
| Eddie and Emma Jones, was born January 26, 1947 in Chicago; and | 7 |
| WHEREAS, Arties E. Jones attended Parker High School and | 8 |
| upon completion enlisted in the United States Armed Forces; and | 9 |
| WHEREAS, Arties E. Jones served in the U.S. Army from 1964 | 10 |
| to 1974, and then attended Northeastern University, where he | 11 |
| graduated with a degree in Criminal Justice; and | 12 |
| WHEREAS, Arties E. Jones served as a Chicago Police Officer | 13 |
| for twenty-seven years, until his retirement in June of 2003; | 14 |
| and
| 15 |
| WHEREAS, Arties E. Jones was an avid member and spiritual | 16 |
| leader for the St. Sabina family, where his strength and | 17 |
| courage sustained not only the faith community but his family | 18 |
| as well; and
| 19 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of Arties E. Jones will be deeply felt | 20 |
| by many, especially his wife, Kathleen Jones; his four | 21 |
| children, Darquite, Darkari, Shane, and Gibran; his mother, | 22 |
| Emma Rose Jones; his sister, Arlene Hasty; his brother, Eddie | 23 |
| P. Jones, Jr.; his grandchildren, Tajai Ling and Justin Arnold; | 24 |
| and a host of family and friends; therefore, be it | 25 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL | 26 |
| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 27 |
| Arties E. Jones along with all who knew and loved him and | 28 |
| extend our sincere condolences to his family and friends; and |

| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 3 |
| presented to the family of Arties E. Jones as an expression of | 4 |
