1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of
3 Illinois were saddened to learn of the death of Salvatore
4 "Ted" Spella of Algonquin on December 10, 2002 at 72 years of
5 age; and
6 WHEREAS, Mr. Spella was born on November 24, 1930 in
7 Milwaukee, Wisconsin the son of Salvatore and Rose Spella; he
8 married his wife, Janice, on May 5, 1951; and
9 WHEREAS, Mr. Spella was an Algonquin leader since 1989;
10 he served as village President and helped develop Algonquin
11 into what it is today; future officials will follow the
12 blueprint that he created over the nine productive years he
13 was village President; his legacy can be seen from nearly any
14 point in his community; and
15 WHEREAS, Mr. Spella's regular trips to Springfield helped
16 bring nearly one million dollars in State park grants to the
17 village; a new public works building is under construction,
18 and a village hall and police department were built in 1995
19 without raising property taxes; and
20 WHEREAS, Mr. Spella served in the Air Force during the
21 Korean Conflict; he was formerly employed as the director of
22 management information services at Elgin Community College
23 and retired in 1995; he had served as village trustee for one
24 term before becoming President; and
25 WHEREAS, Mr. Spella was a member of St. Margaret Mary
26 Catholic Church, the Algonquin Lions Club, a past President
27 of Jacobs High School Booster Club, and he was active in the
28 Algonquin Area Youth Organization (AAYO); and
29 WHEREAS, His passing will be deeply felt by his friends
30 and family, especially his wife, Janice; his sons, Gene,
31 Steven (Pamela), John, and Bob; his grandchildren, Jeffrey,

1 Stephanie, and Amy; and his sisters, Jeanette (Eli)
2 Heinemann, and Rose Marie (Glenn) Kasten; and
3 WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his sister, Fay
4 DiCristo; and his parents, Salvatore and Rose Spella;
5 therefore, be it
6 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL
7 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we note with sadness
8 the death of Salvatore "Ted" Spella, and extend our sincere
9 condolences to all who knew and loved him; and be it further
10 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11 presented to the family of Salvatore "Ted" Spella.
