SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Robert W. "Bob" Vose of Springfield,
4who passed away on February 20, 2023; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Bob Vose was born in Springfield to John and
6Hedwig (Krebs) Vose on January 19, 1929; he attended Sacred
7Heart Grade School and Lanphier High School; he served in the
8U.S. Army; he married Virginia Vetter at Saints Peter & Paul
9Church in Springfield on May 2, 1953; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Bob Vose worked for the Illinois Ice Company,
11delivering ice for many years before becoming a City Water,
12Light, and Power meter reader, and later a stationary engineer
13for the State of Illinois; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Bob Vose was well known as "The Korndog King"; he
15and his brothers initially started selling Vose Corn Dogs at
16the Illinois State Fair in 1966; he and his wife, Virginia,
17continued Vose Fine Food for over 50 years; visiting the Vose
18Family Corn Dog stand continues to be a statewide annual
19tradition during the Illinois State Fair; he was given the
20Illinoisan of the Day Award in 2011 by the Illinois State Fair
21and was honored to be a grand marshal at the fair in 2017; and

1    WHEREAS, Bob Vose was a proud and active citizen, serving
2his country and his beloved city; he was the first city
3alderman elected to represent Ward 5 and continued to be an
4advocate for his ward and its residents long after his term of
5service expired; he was a member of the Oak Ridge Cemetery
6Foundation and was active in fundraising for the cemetery and
7responsible for Monument Avenue beautification improvements;
8and
 
9    WHEREAS, Bob Vose was a generous man and donated his time,
10treasure, and talents to many local causes throughout his
11life; he loved playing the role of Santa Claus at the city
12recreation department and was a referee and umpire of high
13school sports for several years; he sponsored the annual
14Goodwill client Halloween and Christmas parties for 34 years;
15and
 
16    WHEREAS, Bob Vose was a member of IBEW Local 193 for over
1765 years; he was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic
18Church and a proud north ender; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Bob Vose was preceded in death by his parents;
20his wife, Virginia; four brothers; and six sisters; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Bob Vose is survived by his children, Robert Vose
22Jr., Virginia (Mike) Geiger, Ronald (MaryBeth) Vose, Kenneth

1(Roxann) Vose, Debra Vose, and Sandra (Robert) Orr; 14
2grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; his brother, Harold
3(Jean) Vose; and several nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
5ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
6Robert W. "Bob" Vose and extend our sincere condolences to his
7family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
8further
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10presented to the family of Bob Vose as an expression of our
11deepest sympathy.
