SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Deborah Bryant, who passed away on April 17, 2024; and

WHEREAS, Deborah Bryant was born to LaVonia (Mann) Hamlin and James Shaw in Brownsville, Tennessee; she attended Fernwood Elementary School, St. Helena Catholic School, and Harlan High School before furthering her studies at Olive Harvey College; she married Lawrence Bryant, and they had one daughter, Lauren Bryant; she later selflessly adopted five children as her own, Katelin, James, Xavier, Rose, and Davis; and

WHEREAS, Deborah Bryant made impactful contributions throughout her professional career at a number of esteemed institutions, including Cook County Hospital, Michael Reese Hospital, RR Donnelley Publishing, and the MetroMail Corporation; and

WHEREAS, Deborah Bryant resided in the Village of Hazel Crest for 35 years, where she became a familiar and beloved figure on the block of Longfellow Avenue; her vibrant spirit lit up every gathering, and she reveled in the joy of socializing, stepping, dancing, and sharing laughter with friends; and

WHEREAS, Deborah Bryant committed to her faith at an early age, and she was a member of Valley Kingdom Ministries International until her passing; and

WHEREAS, Deborah Bryant was known for her boundless heart, warmth, and kindness; she will be remembered for her radiant personality, nurturing spirit, and her legacy of love and laughter; and

WHEREAS, Deborah Bryant was the mother of six; the grandmother of Amir, Chase, and Chanel; the sister of Sheila (Jonathan) Chalmers-Currin and Jamel Hamlin; the aunt of Kelika Baker and Keith Scott Chalmers; the relation of a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family; and a special friend of Barbara, Les, Tammy, Deni, Sarah, Greg, Larry, and many more; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Deborah Bryant and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Deborah Bryant as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
