SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Charlotte Maris Wax of Newman, who passed away on December 18, 2022 at the age of 103; and

WHEREAS, Charlotte Wax was born in Tuscola on February 27, 1919 and graduated from the University of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Along with work on the family farm in Newman raising corn, soybeans, Duroc hogs, and Shorthorn cattle, Charlotte Wax taught business at the high school in Tuscola; and

WHEREAS, Charlotte Wax was a lifelong member of the Newman Methodist Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher and Methodist Woman member; she was active in the Newman Woman's Club, serving as a 50-year member; she was still a devoted 49-year member of the Stephen A. Douglas Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, where she had served as Regent and Honorary Regent; she was a long time 4-H leader with the Newman Kum-Joy-Nus 4-H Club, and she started the Buttons n Bows Home Economics Club for sewing and food projects; she also chaperoned the dorms for many years at the Illinois State Fair; and

WHEREAS, Charlotte Wax was the Illinois Future Homemakers of America Chapter Mother in 1969 and was selected as Illinoisan of the Day at the Illinois State Fair in 2018; and

WHEREAS, Charlotte Wax enjoyed genealogy, reading, playing euchre, watching Illini sports, and spoiling her ten grandchildren and 25 plus great-grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Charlotte Wax was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Ray Wax, and her parents, Ward and Zala Maris; and

WHEREAS, Charlotte Wax is survived by her sons, Wallace (Becky) and Richard (Carol); her daughter, Martha (Robert); her grandchildren, Deborah Holifield, Kimberly Rund, Michael Wax, Andrea Gallagher, Katharine Sherman, David Wax, Andrew Wax, Kristina Milburn, Roberta Lower, and Scott Burris; and her great-grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Charlotte Maris Wax and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Charlotte Wax as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
