SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Ralph F. Coomes of Moline, who passed away on February 3, 2024; and

WHEREAS, Ralph Coomes was born to John and Fannie (Ridenour) Coomes in Evansville, Indiana on July 7, 1925; he served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1945; he graduated from Bosse High School in Evansville in 1946; he married Lucille Lawson in Litchfield on June 21, 1948, and she preceded him in death in 2005 after 57 years of marriage; and

WHEREAS, Ralph Coomes was a salesman for Newberry's, Goodyear, and then Reflex Fitness Products in Milan, retiring in 2013; and

WHEREAS, Ralph Coomes was a member of Grace Bible Fellowship, VFW Post 2153, and the Friends Circle Club, Moline; and

WHEREAS, Ralph Coomes was proud to attend an Honor Flight in 2010; he was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs; and

WHEREAS, Ralph Coomes was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Karen Woods; his grandson, Steven Woods; and his great-grandson, Nathan Woods; and

WHEREAS, Ralph Coomes is survived by his children, Diane (Craig) Askam and Dave (Elaine) Coomes; his grandchildren, George (Chanda) Woods, Chris (Mark) Wilson, Heather (Mark) Johnson, Jody (Steven) Kern, Tim (Jodie) Askam, Kim (Ryan) Woodward, and Kyle (Laura Poffenbarger James) Coomes; his great-grandchildren, Brenon Wilson, Alex Kern, Jacob Kern, Garret Johnson, Henry Woodward, Lucy Woodward, Owen Woodward, Taylor (Trevor) O'Neill, Chelsey (Mike) Krocza, Kendal Gruman, Julia DePriest, and Jarod DePriest; and his great-great-grandchildren, Reid Krocza, Dane Krocza, Olivia O'Neill, and Jackson O'Neill; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Ralph F. Coomes and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Ralph Coomes as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
