SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Chong Cha Barnes, who passed away on November 23, 2023; and

WHEREAS, Chong Barnes was born in a small village in South Korea on July 3, 1950; she married James E. Barnes Sr. on May 24, 1971; she accompanied him on his military tours until they eventually settled in Illinois; she became a U.S. citizen in 2004; and

WHEREAS, Chong Barnes was a faithful member of the Munster Korean Church for over 35 years; and

WHEREAS, Chong Barnes was a strong mother and a sweet grandmother who loved her family; and

WHEREAS, Chong Barnes was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years; her companion of 12 years, Tyree Miller Sr.; her son; her daughter; and her grandchild; and

WHEREAS, Chong Barnes is survived by her children, Sharon Barnes, Shirley Rochelle, and James E. Barnes Jr.; her grandchildren, Quovadis, Jarvell, Lorenzo, Hasan, Jamesha, James III, and Hajji; and her special sisters/friends, Gina, Kim, Kim, and Micha; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Chong Cha Banres and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Chong Barnes as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
