SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Teddy Gene "Ted" Koester of Chatham,
4who passed away on January 24, 2023; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Ted Koester was born to James Richard Koester and
6Alice Nell Kribbs in Moberly, Missouri on October 10, 1959; he
7graduated from Glenwood High School in 1978, receiving varsity
8letters in baseball, basketball, and football and being voted
9by his peers as the most personable, the most popular, the most
10athletic, the best all-around, and the 1978 prom king; he was
11an outstanding athlete and earned a football scholarship to
12play at Southeast Missouri State University; he married Kelly
13Ann Rourke on September 21, 2013; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Ted Koester was a true craftsman and spent most
15of his life as a contractor, building many homes in Chatham and
16the surrounding areas with his company, Homes by Ted Koester;
17he also owned and operated several real estate companies and
18worked for Illinois National Bank; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Ted Koester's passion for sports led him to
20opening Ted's Sporting Goods in Springfield at the age of 19;
21he was asked to sponsor and soon recruited to play on a
22slow-pitch softball team, where he met lifelong friends; he

1was the former vice president of Chatham Baseball and
2Softball, Inc. (CBSI), and he led the construction of the
3baseball concession stand that is now dedicated in his honor
4at Chatham Community Park; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Ted Koester was a proud Chatham Jaycee since 1980
6and was the leader of the "Engine Room" at the annual Chatham
7Sweetcorn Festival; he enjoyed gardening, fishing, golfing,
8and spending time at the family cabin on Sugar Creek Lake in
9Missouri; he enjoyed listening to country music, spending time
10in the lodge, where he often enjoyed a drink with family and
11friends, and watching old westerns, sports of all kinds, and
12the Food Network; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Ted Koester was known for being a hard worker and
14possessing high integrity and character; he was a man of few
15words and many deeds; most of all, he will be remembered for
16his infinite and unyielding love for his family and many
17friends; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Ted Koester was preceded in death by his parents;
19his brother, Kenny Skinner; his stepfather, Larry Skinner; his
20stepbrother, Chuck Tuggle; and his stepmother, Roberta; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Ted Koester is survived by his wife, Kelly; his
22children, Ryan Littrell (Penny Tehrani), David (Sarah)

1Littrell, Jared (Angie) Koester, Brittany (Phillip) Bisch,
2Abbey (Michael) Maloney, and Sean Garcia (Merissa Billhartz);
3his grandchildren, Reagan and Colin Littrell, Jake, Jimmy, and
4Addi Jo Koester, Alice Ann Bisch, and Finn and Isla Maloney;
5his siblings, Jacqueline Koester, L.B. (Sara) Skinner, Jamie
6(Chris) Milcik, Jason Koester, Jenny (Greg) Dial, Steve
7(Karla) Skinner, Lisa (Garry) Martin, and Lori and Steve
8Tuggle; his stepmother, Brenda Koester; and numerous nieces
9and nephews; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
12Teddy Gene "Ted" Koester and extend our sincere condolences to
13his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
14further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Ted Koester as an expression of our
17deepest sympathy.
