SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of former Illinois State Representative
4Robert John "Bob" Walters of Alton, who passed away on January
521, 2023; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Bob Walters was born to Joseph H. and Liguori C.
7(Dwiggins) Walters in Alton on July 1, 1930; he graduated from
8Campion Jesuit High School in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin and
9St. Ambrose College in Davenport, Iowa; he served in the U.S.
10Army in Korea from 1953 to 1954; he married Jeanne Osseck at
11St. Louis Cathedral in St. Louis, Missouri on May 19, 1956, and
12she preceded him in death on September 18, 2009; and
 
13    WHEREAS, After his military service, Bob Walters worked
14with his brother, Joseph, in the family business at the J.H.
15Walters Company; he then worked for the National Shrine of Our
16Lady of the Snows in Belleville; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Bob Walters was elected to the Illinois House of
18Representatives in 1970, where he proudly served his
19constituents for two terms; he became executive director of
20the Southwestern Illinois Industrial Association in 1978,
21retiring in 2000; he was appointed to the Illinois State Board
22of Elections in 2005, where he served until 2012; and

1    WHEREAS, Bob Walters was active with the Alton Foundation
2and the William M. BeDell Achievement & Resource Center (ARC);
3he and his wife also founded the Serra Club of Madison County;
4and
 
5    WHEREAS, Bob Walters was known for his wit and his love of
6sports as an athlete, a coach, and an avid fan of Alton
7Marquette Catholic High School, Alton High School, and Lewis &
8Clark Community College athletics; he will be remembered for
9his faith, his attention to family and friends, and his
10undying love for his wife, Jeanne; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Bob Walters was preceded in death by his wife,
12Jeanne; his parents; his sister, Virginia; his brother,
13Joseph; his son, Robert John Jr.; his son-in-law, David Logan;
14and his grandson, Robert Logan; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Bob Walters is survived by his children, Jim
16(Angela) Walters, Theresa Logan, Linda (Justin) Scheiter, Tom
17(Megan) Walters, Mike (Polly) Walters, Carolyn (Bob)
18McCluskey, Mary (Ed) Zamorski, and David (Karen) Walters; his
19grandchildren, Jake (Paige) Walters, Ellen (George) Khoury,
20Jon Walters, Christopher (Casey) Logan, Patrick Logan, Sydney
21Scheiter, Sam Scheiter, Jackson Scheiter, Matt (Jenna)
22Walters, Ryan Walters, Hannah Walters, Nathan Walters,

1Meredith (Meme) Walters, Andrew McCluskey, Daniel McCluskey,
2Alex Armstrong, Ethan Armstrong, Liesa Armstrong, Valerie
3Walters, and Nina Walters; and his great-grandchildren, Evelyn
4Logan, Ella Walters, and Isabella Walters; therefore, be it
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
6ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
7former Illinois State Representative Robert John "Bob" Walters
8and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and
9all who knew and loved him; and be it further
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11presented to the family of Bob Walters as an expression of our
12deepest sympathy.
