SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of former Illinois State Representative Robert John "Bob" Walters of Alton, who passed away on January 21, 2023; and

WHEREAS, Bob Walters was born to Joseph H. and Liguori C. (Dwiggins) Walters in Alton on July 1, 1930; he graduated from Campion Jesuit High School in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin and St. Ambrose College in Davenport, Iowa; he served in the U.S. Army in Korea from 1953 to 1954; he married Jeanne Osseck at St. Louis Cathedral in St. Louis, Missouri on May 19, 1956, and she preceded him in death on September 18, 2009; and

WHEREAS, After his military service, Bob Walters worked with his brother, Joseph, in the family business at the J.H. Walters Company; he then worked for the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows in Belleville; and

WHEREAS, Bob Walters was elected to the Illinois House of Representatives in 1970, where he proudly served his constituents for two terms; he became executive director of the Southwestern Illinois Industrial Association in 1978, retiring in 2000; he was appointed to the Illinois State Board of Elections in 2005, where he served until 2012; and

WHEREAS, Bob Walters was active with the Alton Foundation and the William M. BeDell Achievement & Resource Center (ARC); he and his wife also founded the Serra Club of Madison County; and

WHEREAS, Bob Walters was known for his wit and his love of sports as an athlete, a coach, and an avid fan of Alton Marquette Catholic High School, Alton High School, and Lewis & Clark Community College athletics; he will be remembered for his faith, his attention to family and friends, and his undying love for his wife, Jeanne; and

WHEREAS, Bob Walters was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanne; his parents; his sister, Virginia; his brother, Joseph; his son, Robert John Jr.; his son-in-law, David Logan; and his grandson, Robert Logan; and

WHEREAS, Bob Walters is survived by his children, Jim (Angela) Walters, Theresa Logan, Linda (Justin) Scheiter, Tom (Megan) Walters, Mike (Polly) Walters, Carolyn (Bob) McCluskey, Mary (Ed) Zamorski, and David (Karen) Walters; his grandchildren, Jake (Paige) Walters, Ellen (George) Khoury, Jon Walters, Christopher (Casey) Logan, Patrick Logan, Sydney Scheiter, Sam Scheiter, Jackson Scheiter, Matt (Jenna) Walters, Ryan Walters, Hannah Walters, Nathan Walters, Meredith (Meme) Walters, Andrew McCluskey, Daniel McCluskey, Alex Armstrong, Ethan Armstrong, Liesa Armstrong, Valerie Walters, and Nina Walters; and his great-grandchildren, Evelyn Logan, Ella Walters, and Isabella Walters; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of former Illinois State Representative Robert John "Bob" Walters and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Bob Walters as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
