SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Eldon Ray Arnold, formerly of Peoria,
4who passed away on December 30, 2022; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Eldon Arnold was born to Dorothy (Miller)
6Boostrom and Estill Arnold in Monmouth on July 22, 1944; he
7graduated from Galesburg High School in 1962, where he was a
8decorated high school wrestler and All-State football player
9who also made the All-American football team; he married
10Beverly Jeanne Johnson on November 7, 1964; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Eldon Arnold began his career at Caterpillar in
12the factory in 1965; over time, he developed skills in
13programming and project management in the office; he was a
14longtime board member of CEFCU; in 1992, he retired from
15Caterpillar and went to work at CEFCU full time, where he
16assumed the role of president and CEO in 1998 before retiring
17in 2006; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Eldon Arnold served as a member of CUNA Mutual
19Holding Company's Board of Directors for nearly 13 years,
20including serving as board chairman for the final four years
21of his tenure; in 2004, he was appointed to serve a 2-year term
22on the Federal Reserve Board's Thrift Institutional Advisory

1Council under Chairman Alan Greenspan's tenure; and
 
2    WHEREAS, For his athletic accomplishments, Eldon Arnold
3was inducted into the Galesburg High School Hall of Fame in
42009; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Eldon Arnold was known for his love, which was
6loyal, fierce, and unwavering; over the years, he frequented
7the stands of hundreds of sporting events for his children,
8grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, making himself known
9as their biggest fan; he was affectionately known as "Poppi"
10to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Eldon Arnold will be remembered for his beautiful
12outlook on life, patient tenacity, and uncompromising grit;
13and
 
14    WHEREAS, Eldon Arnold was preceded in death by his parents
15and his brother, James Arnold; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Eldon Arnold is survived by his wife of 58 years,
17Beverly; his sons, Eric (Melanie) Arnold and Bradley (Amy)
18Arnold; his nine grandchildren, with three married; his four
19great-grandchildren; his sisters, Mary Arnold, Jacqueline
20(Darren) Niles, and Christa Kay; his many cousins, nieces, and
21nephews; and extended family; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
2ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
3Eldon Ray Arnold and extend our sincere condolences to his
4family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
5further
 
6    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7presented to the family of Eldon Arnold as an expression of our
8deepest sympathy.
