SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to congratulate the Simeon Career Academy boys basketball team, the Wolverines, on winning the Chicago Public League championship; and

WHEREAS, The Wolverines claimed their eighth city title on February 11, 2023 with a thrilling 72 to 64 overtime victory over Kenwood Academy in the Chicago Public League Tournament championship game at Credit Union 1 Arena; and

WHEREAS, The Wolverines led by 20 points entering the fourth quarter before Kenwood Academy surged back to tie the game and send it to overtime; and

WHEREAS, The Wolverines dominated the overtime period by outscoring Kenwood Academy 10 to 2; and

WHEREAS, The Wolverines' next goal was to win another state championship, but after a hard fought title game, they ended their season with a 46 to 42 overtime loss to Metamora Township High School; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the Simeon Career Academy boys basketball team, the Wolverines, on winning the Chicago Public League championship, and we wish them many more successful seasons; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to the players and coaches as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
