| 1 | | SENATE RESOLUTION
| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to | 3 | | recognize Beverly Sussman on her service as President of the | 4 | | Village of Buffalo Grove; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, President Sussman and her husband, Marty, moved | 6 | | to the Village of Buffalo Grove in 1971, and they raised their | 7 | | children in the village; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, President Sussman previously worked as a | 9 | | sixth-grade science teacher with Kildeer Countryside | 10 | | Consolidated School District #96; during her career in | 11 | | education, she was awarded the Presidential Award for | 12 | | Excellence in Math and Science Teaching and represented the | 13 | | State of Illinois in Washington, D.C. in 1995; she taught for | 14 | | 25 years before her retirement in 2004; she also served as an | 15 | | adjunct professor at National Louis University, where she | 16 | | taught science methods courses in the master's degree program; | 17 | | and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, President Sussman became involved in village | 19 | | leadership by serving on the Rick Kahen Commission for | 20 | | Residents with Disabilities, a post she held for 15 years from | 21 | | 1994 until her first election as a village trustee in 2009; | 22 | | during this time, she and the commission helped expand |

| 1 | | accessibility to community members with special needs; she | 2 | | served as a village trustee from 2009 until 2015; and
| 3 | | WHEREAS, President Sussman has achieved a number of | 4 | | accomplishments during her eight-year tenure as president, all | 5 | | of which are to the betterment of the Village of Buffalo Grove; | 6 | | she and the village board have fostered a business-friendly | 7 | | economy and expanded communications efforts to include a | 8 | | variety of social media platforms, live-streamed village board | 9 | | meetings, a robust website, and a weekly e-newsletter; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, President Sussman's additional accomplishments | 11 | | include attracting Woodman's grocery store and Northwest | 12 | | Community Healthcare and its adjacent multitenant development, | 13 | | establishing a new Public Works Facility, and pursuing the | 14 | | Infrastructure Modernization Program to revive Buffalo Grove's | 15 | | streets, water, and sanitary systems; and
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Over the past several years, President Sussman | 17 | | has been heavily involved in the redevelopment of the Town | 18 | | Center, which is the largest redevelopment project in village | 19 | | history, into a new, modern central entertainment and | 20 | | residential district called The Clove; and
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Through her efforts and dedication, President | 22 | | Sussman has played a key role in helping the Village of Buffalo |

| 1 | | Grove grow into a bustling community featuring a healthy | 2 | | economy, excellent parks, and high-quality schools and a great | 3 | | place to live, work, and raise a family; and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, President Sussman has expressed plans to spend | 5 | | more time with her husband, Marty, and her family, who | 6 | | continuously supported her efforts to serve the Village of | 7 | | Buffalo Grove; therefore, be it
| 8 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | 9 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize Beverly | 10 | | Sussman on her service as President of the Village of Buffalo | 11 | | Grove, thank her for her dedication to the community, and wish | 12 | | her the best in her future endeavors; and be it further
| 13 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 14 | | presented to Beverly Sussman as an expression of our esteem | 15 | | and respect.
