| 1 | | SENATE RESOLUTION
| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to | 3 | | congratulate Chief Chad Reed on his retirement and commend him | 4 | | for his decades of service to his community as a police | 5 | | officer; and | 6 | | WHEREAS, Chief Reed served honorably in the United States | 7 | | Marine Corps as corporal from 1991 to 1995 and as Marine Corps | 8 | | Engineer Equipment Operator – MOS-1345, prior to serving with | 9 | | the Charleston Police Department; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Chief Reed began his police career as a patrol | 11 | | officer from April 1996 to July 2005, during which time he | 12 | | performed law enforcement and crime prevention work, enforced | 13 | | state laws and city ordinances, and protected life and | 14 | | property within Charleston by performing a combination of | 15 | | duties, including suppressant crime patrol, directing traffic, | 16 | | and issuing citations; and
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Chief Reed served as patrol sergeant from July | 18 | | 2005 to June 2009, during which time he served as a first-line | 19 | | supervisor who planned, assigned, reviewed, and evaluated the | 20 | | work of patrol officers; he also coordinated section | 21 | | activities, participated in police operations, and performed | 22 | | related work as required; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Chief Reed served as a canine officer from | 2 | | January 2002 to June 2009; he worked with two dogs, Blitz and | 3 | | Edo, and served law enforcement as a locating tool for | 4 | | criminal apprehension and narcotic detection; and | 5 | | WHEREAS, Chief Reed supervised and coordinated the | 6 | | investigation of criminal cases as chief of investigations of | 7 | | the Charleston Police Department from June 2009 to February | 8 | | 2016; and | 9 | | WHEREAS, Chief Reed assisted in daily operations of the | 10 | | police department as deputy chief from February 2016 to July | 11 | | 2018, which included working with the mayor and city manager | 12 | | of Charleston; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Chief Reed became chief of police in July 2018 | 14 | | and has been leading a highly-trained and respected police | 15 | | department of 33 sworn officers for Charleston, a city of | 16 | | 17,000 residents and home to Eastern Illinois University; and
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Chief Reed has been married for 30 years and is | 18 | | the devoted husband of his wife, Bretta, and the loving father | 19 | | to their children, daughter Shelby and son Wyatt; therefore, | 20 | | be it

| 1 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | 2 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Chief | 3 | | Chad Reed on his retirement and commend him for his decades of | 4 | | service to his community as a police officer as well as his | 5 | | service to the United States through the Marine Corps; and be | 6 | | it further
| 7 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 8 | | presented to Chief Reed as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
