SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, It is highly fitting that the Illinois General
3Assembly pays honor and respect to the truly great individuals
4who have served our country and, in doing so, have made the
5ultimate sacrifice for our nation; and
 
6    WHEREAS, SGT Michael J. Vangelisti was born in Ottawa on
7June 26, 1947 and graduated from Marseilles High School in
81965; he attended Southern Illinois University and Bradley
9University before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force in August of
101967; and
 
11    WHEREAS, SGT Vangelisti entered active duty on January 18,
121968 and was assigned to Vietnam in September of 1969; and
 
13    WHEREAS, SGT Vangelisti died on April 28, 1970 due to
14injuries sustained in an aircraft accident; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF
17REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the
18section of Route 6 in the City of Marseilles that runs from the
19intersections of Route 6 and Jefferson Street to Route 6 and
20Main Street as the "SGT Michael J. Vangelisti Memorial
21Highway"; and be it further

1    RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation
2is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with
3State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs
4giving notice of the name "SGT Michael J. Vangelisti Memorial
5Highway"; and be it further
 
6    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
7presented to the family of SGT Vangelisti, the Mayor of
8Marseilles, and the Secretary of the Illinois Department of
9Transportation.
