SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
5 ILCS 140/5  from Ch. 116, par. 205

    Amends the Freedom of Information Act. Provides that a public body shall include in its list of records available under the Act the identification and a plain-text description of each of the types or categories of information of each field of each database of the public body. Provides that the public body shall provide a sufficient description of the structures of all databases under the control of the public body to allow a requester to request the public body to perform specific database queries.

1    AN ACT concerning government.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Freedom of Information Act is amended by
5changing Section 5 as follows:
 
6    (5 ILCS 140/5)  (from Ch. 116, par. 205)
7    Sec. 5. As to public records prepared or received after
8the effective date of this Act, each public body shall
9maintain and make available for inspection and copying a
10reasonably current list of all types or categories of records
11under its control. The list shall be reasonably detailed in
12order to aid persons in obtaining access to public records
13pursuant to this Act and shall include the identification and
14a plain-text description of each of the types or categories of
15information of each field of each database of the public body.
16Each public body shall furnish upon request a description of
17the manner in which public records stored by means of
18electronic data processing may be obtained in a form
19comprehensible to persons lacking knowledge of computer
20language or printout format and shall provide a sufficient
21description of the structures of all databases under the
22control of the public body to allow a requester to request the
23public body to perform specific database queries.
