SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
105 ILCS 5/2-3.196 new

    Amends the State Board of Education Article of the School Code. Provides that the State Board of Education shall establish a grant program to support cultural and language immersion programs, gifted and talented programs, and advanced placement programs. Provides that the State Board of Education shall develop and administer an application program for schools to apply for grant funds. Provides that, to receive grant funds, schools must: (1) ensure that any student can apply to any school in the school district with restrictive admission procedures; and (2) provide transportation to each student in the school district to the school the student attends.

1    AN ACT concerning education.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Section
52-3.196 as follows:
 
6    (105 ILCS 5/2-3.196 new)
7    Sec. 2-3.196. Immersion, gifted, and advanced grant
8program.
9    (a) Subject to appropriation, the State Board of Education
10shall establish a grant program to support cultural and
11language immersion programs, gifted and talented programs, and
12advanced placement programs.
13    (b) The State Board of Education shall develop and
14administer an application program for schools to apply for
15grant funds. To receive grant funds, schools must:
16        (1) ensure that any student can apply to any school in
17    the school district with restrictive admission procedures;
18    and
19        (2) provide transportation to each student in the
20    school district to the school the student attends.
