SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:

820 ILCS 105/16 new

Amends the Minimum Wage Law. Provides that all State agencies operating an internship program or employing interns shall pay such persons at least the specified minimum wage rate. Defines "State agencies".

A BILL FOR

AN ACT concerning employment.

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly:

Section 5. The Minimum Wage Law is amended by adding Section 16 as follows:

Sec. 16. State intern minimum wage. Notwithstanding any rule or provision of law to the contrary, all State agencies operating an internship program or employing interns shall pay such persons at least the minimum wage rate as provided under Section 4. For purposes of this Section, "State agencies" has the same meaning as provided in Section 1-7 of the Illinois State Auditing Act.
