SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
105 ILCS 25/1.25 new

    Amends the Interscholastic Athletic Organization Act. Requires an association or other entity that has as one of its purposes promoting, sponsoring, regulating, or in any manner providing for interscholastic athletics or any form of athletic competition among schools and students within this State to allow a student for whom it is determined that special education services are needed under the School Code to participate in interscholastic athletics and other forms of athletic competition for as long as the student is eligible for such special education services, which, for purposes of the School Code, means through the day before the student's 22nd birthday.

1    AN ACT concerning education.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Interscholastic Athletic Organization Act
5is amended by adding Section 1.25 as follows:
 
6    (105 ILCS 25/1.25 new)
7    Sec. 1.25. Special education student participation. An
8association or other entity that has as one of its purposes
9promoting, sponsoring, regulating, or in any manner providing
10for interscholastic athletics or any form of athletic
11competition among schools and students within this State shall
12allow a student for whom it is determined that special
13education services are needed under Article 14 of the School
14Code to participate in interscholastic athletics and other
15forms of athletic competition for as long as the student is
16eligible for such special education services, which, for
17purposes of Article 14 of the School Code, means through the
18day before the student's 22nd birthday.
