HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The Illinois dentist community has over 300
3endodontists; due to their unique skills, endodontists are
4considered dental experts; and
 
5    WHEREAS, In addition to diagnosing and treating tooth
6pain, endodontists perform root canals and handle dental
7emergencies with precision; despite the COVID-19 pandemic,
8they continued to work, thereby helping patients avoid
9emergency rooms and urgent care centers for dental care; to
10become endodontists, they have completed three years of
11specialized training beyond dental school; and
 
12    WHEREAS, In some cases, endodontists can save a decayed
13tooth by performing root canal treatment, diagnosing tooth
14pain, and performing other dental procedures; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Endodontists have exceptional hand-eye
16coordination and can perform complex dental treatments with
17incredible precision; they employ the most advanced technology
18to save patients' teeth and relieve their pain; no one can save
19a patient's natural teeth like endodontists; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Endodontists aim to preserve the natural teeth of
21their patients whenever possible; however, they will consider

1all treatment options to determine what is best for the
2patient's particular case; and
 
3    WHEREAS, An endodontist performs 25 root canal treatments
4per week on average; specialized treatment results in a faster
5healing rate and the best outcome for patients; therefore,
6dentists and endodontists often collaborate in order to ensure
7that each patient's issue with their teeth is handled by the
8best member of the dental team; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Among the most important aspects of a person's
10health are their teeth, which provide access to nutrition,
11provide a sign of good health, and are used to express
12emotions; poor oral hygiene can lead to other health issues;
13it is important to keep one's gums, teeth, and mouth in good
14health by visiting the dentist regularly, flossing, brushing
15thoroughly twice a day, and avoiding foods and habits that can
16lead to cavities; therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
18HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
19we declare May 2023 as Save Your Tooth Month, recognize the
20endodontists who are dedicated to saving patients' natural
21teeth, and encourage citizens of Illinois to practice good
22oral hygiene to save their natural teeth.
